Hall of Fame – Art History Assignment

This was an individual assignment to create an art piece of any medium related to or inspired by an art period while adding a personal touch to it. The period I had chosen was Neoclassicism.

About the Art Piece

Hall of Fame is a scale model of my own design. It is a hall inspired by architecture from the Neoclassical era. It is designed to show the glory of dragon boat, a water sport that focuses on intensity, strength and teamwork.

Model Information:
– A4 printer box size (210mm x 297mm x 215mm)
– Hall viewed from a position on the corridor
– Pilasters on each side of the corridor
– Wall and floor designs
– Trophy at the end of the corridor flanked by a paddle on each side

Characteristics of Neoclassical architecture:
– Simplicity
– Geometric designs
– Symmetry
– Usage of plaster and ornaments

Personal Objectives:
– Focus on the features that are involved in the design of the interior and how it contributes to the overall appearance of the model
– Creative use of simple materials put together to form the model
– Grandeur feel to the architecture

Design Considerations:
– Following the Adam style, an interior design and architecture style (a uniformed scheme, decorative motifs, pilasters, ornaments, pastel colour schemes)
– Most common geometries used: rhombus (represents clarity and inner focus), triangle (bears the same traits as a rhombus as it is half a rhombus)
– Blue for wall and ceiling: calm and tranquil, colour of the sky and the sea, both very important in dragon boat
– Yellow for sun and floor design: an energetic colour, representing the power that comes from the sport
